The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) approached the Weikert Center in early 2008 to develop a process of continuous improvement for its 21st Century Learning Center grantees using the research based Youth Program Quality Assessment. Over the 2008-2009 school year, the Weikart Center supported a pilot of a process that included program self and external assessment and improvement planning. The pilot included one to three program sites from each of the grantees, and has been expanded to now include all grantee sites. The process now includes targeted Youth Work Methods that are aligned with the Youth PQA.
